The Office of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice brokered a historical deal to allow
Ghanaian judges, lawyers and law graduates to study in the prestigious Georgetown
University Law Centre in the United States capital of Washington, DC. The agreement which
was an initiative of the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat is to implement a joint graduate
programme in legal education to help ensure that Ghana have a functional and relevant legal
system that works for the people of Ghana.
Georgetown Law School, USA is considered as having one of the world’s most comprehensive
international and comparative law programmes with extensive curricular and programmatic
offerings. Georgetown University Law Center is situated to be the leading global law center in
USA and perhaps the world. The Transnational Law Faculty claims world-renowned scholars,
many of whom have also held positions of responsibility in the U.S. government, international
organizations, and NGOs.
Applications are invited from qualified Ghanaians interested in pursuing postgraduate
programmes in Law at the Georgetown Law School, USA under the following programmes;
Master of Laws (LLM): 1year
Doctor of Juridical Science (SJD): 4-5 years
ELIGIBILITY
Candidates must satisfy the following requirements:
- Be Ghanaian citizens resident in Ghana.
- Each applicant must
i. Hold a degree in relevant field of study
ii. Have completed LLB with at least second class lower division.
NB. A call to the Bar is an advantage - Should have completed National Service
